Mexico is one of the top year-round vacation destinations in the world. And, is it any wonder? With beautiful beaches, great weather, and a variety of regions with unique cities to explore, Mexico continues to offer something to delight everyone. Whether you’re traveling with family or friends, a trip to Mexico can be much more than just fun in the sun.
Trying to decide what to pack for your Mexican vacation? In order to figure out what to wear while on your trip, you need to take a couple of factors into consideration: the time of year, vacation location, the weather, and what activities you’ll be doing while you’re there.
Before heading off on your Mexican vacation, you need to do your homework so you can not only dress in comfort, but can look stylish at the same time. A word to the wise — layers.
The clothing style in Mexico varies, from more traditional dresses to stylish jeans, tops, and sundresses. Heat and how close you are to the beach have an influence on clothing styles. Make sure to bring lots of bathing suits and loose-fitting clothing to stay cool, but you may also want to pack a light jacket or two for visiting surrounding villages and towns. If visiting churches and cathedrals are on your list of things to do, you’ll need to have something to cover your shoulders, long pants, or a skirt.

Spring and summer
If you plan on vacationing in Mexico during the spring, the temperatures are going to be a few degrees cooler than in the summer months. In order to be fashionable as well as comfortable, shorts, short-sleeve tops, skirts, casual dresses and pants should be on your packing list. You’ll want to throw in a light jacket or sweater because nighttime temperatures can drop into the 60’s.
In Central Mexico, the spring is considered to be the warm season with temperatures in the 70’s and low 80’s. Jeans, pants, leggings, casual dresses, some T-shirts, both short and long sleeved, cargo shorts, a jacket or sweater are good options for visiting this region.
Summer in Mexico is generally hot and humid at the beaches, so light clothing and sandals are your best options as well as sunglasses, a hat, and plenty of sunscreen! If you’re going to be traveling inland, you’ll want to consider packing some casual, but more fashionable outfits. In Central Mexico, the rainy season begins at the end of May, so pack a raincoat.

Fall and winter
Because Mexico is located closer to the equator, it’s still usually warm throughout the fall and winter seasons. The temperature at the coastal areas can range anywhere from the high 50’s to mid-70’s and 80’s. In some regions, fall and winter are going to be wetter.
The northern and central parts of Mexico can feel cooler, especially in the early mornings and nights. This translates into dressing in layers: shirts with sleeves, tee’s to wear underneath, sweaters, jacket, pants, jeans, and consider packing an umbrella for that occasional downpour.
If you’re worried about what to wear on your vacation to Mexico, don’t. There are all sorts of stores where you pick up clothing and accessories. Try your hand at bartering at a flea market!
